About Us

Hello. I'm Misty, and this is my family. We're so glad you found our blog! My husband is Egyptian and I was born in the Lone Star State. We live with our three daughters (and cats and birds) in Texas, south of Houston. We are homeschoolers and spend our days reading, writing, hanging out, seeing friends, and navigating the tricky road of allergies and food sensitivities.

How We Came to Be Gluten Free

Nan, my gluten free girl
My oldest daughter, Hanan ("Nan"), was always a little sickly. She had tons of ear aches and tummy aches and just generally felt bad a lot of the time. When she was about 8, however, things got much worse. She had no energy, she was covered in a rash, she had stomach aches most of the time, and she ached all over. It was horrible.

After many tests and much trial and error, we learned that she was gluten intolerant. When we were first told that, I was confused. I had never even heard of gluten. I actually thought the doctor meant to say glucose! Needless to say, I had A LOT to learn if I was ever going to get my daughter feeling well again. I had no idea what to feed the poor child!

What Contains Gluten? was born out of a mother's need to understand exactly what foods contain gluten and which ones don't, so her gluten sensitive child could eat all her favorite "regular" foods and avoid getting sick.
